Lighting and the dramatic portrait
My edition is hardcover and was published in 1983.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The author does use a fairly small studio space and straight forward hot quartz lights and reflectors as basic equipment. So the many different lighting set ups illustrated with photographs and diagrams are achievable even for hobbyists.
I am not particularly fond of the author's photography. He has a broad range of subjects and nearly all of his work is fairly bland. Most illustrations are in B&W but there is a color section.
I suspect most photographers like myself cater so a certain clientele and do not take as photography clients everyone from children to executives.
This book pre-dates digital and though photographic basic principles do not change, methods and style do. I routinely do my own basic retouching with PS and in Hart's book this work must be assigned to a professional for meticulous hand work.
Hart discusses slides and negatives and for all but a minority of photographers this is not useful for contemporary creators.
