GATS 2000 : New Directions in Services Trade Liberalization Book

Revised from presentations at a June 1999 conference in Washington D.C., 18 papers consider the General Agreement on Trade in Services, which the World Trade Organization was planning to take up in its next round in Seattle the coming November. Hoping to bring to service providers the same freedom and prosperity enjoyed by product manufacturers, they cover the benefits of services trade and investment liberalization, the built-in agenda, domestic regulation and regulatory reform to provide effective market access, new issues such as competition policy and electronic commerce, and challenges ahead.
