Freud's inadequate description of the developmental link between a child's way of knowing and an adult's way of knowing. According to Melvin Feffer, Freud was unable to articulate a coherent developmental theory because he presupposed an adult mind in the child. Reviewers of "The Structure of Freudian Thought" heralded Feffer's new theory but called for an elaboration of his constructionist position. In this book, Dr Feffer offers an empirical demonstration of how these processes are involved in personality development, presenting an alternative conception of interpersonal development, one that starts from a different philosophical position, and aims to be by virtue of this, both more comprehensive and less problematic than that afforded by Freudian theory.
