In this study of erosional sculpted forms in open bedrock channels, Richardson (Lancaster Environment Center) and Carling (geography, U. of Southampton) identify four general principles: the continuity of form between end-member types; the convergence of form toward preferred morphologies; the constructive interference of the flow structures of contiguous bedforms; and the tendency toward the development of sharp transverse crests in bedrock surfaces. They also discuss the use of sculpted forms as indicators of flow patterns and of the dominant erosion processes active within channels. Annotation © 2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
