All in all this was a fascinating bio of one of my favourite writers. Along with Lajolo covering the key moments of Pavese's life, from his childhood, to his tragic death, he includes many letters that Pavese wrote to various persons during his career, including friends and love interests, and the book goes some ways to answer the questions I've been pondering on since reading Pavese's diaries last year. I now have in my head a bigger and better understanding of man who was seemingly not to be understood.
