Greece in poetry Book

I don't have a copy of this yet.
YET!!!!
Which proclaims my determination to!!
These are poems Brooks Haxton has translated from the Ancient Greek.
I am giving it 5 stars even before reading it!!
My poem written about a year after returning from a year's teaching English in Athens may explain some of my 'little obsession'.

DOWN AMONG THE GREEKS
( To June)
I
My souvenirs were few:
a tiny soldier doll,
frill-skirted, pom-pom shoed;
twenty postcards of Poseidon
from twenty different views;
two collections of Cavafy
in which my thoughts could roost;
and, of course, the indefatigable
and inevitable Proust.
(Hardly Greek, but nor were you.)
These I collected
Down among the Greeks.

II
Adventurers we were;
Ulysses-like: seeking wonders,
oracles, legends -
and a little love
in dusty Athens
and shimmering islands;
among the crumbling ruins,
soft remnants of other dreamers.
We knitted ourselves
into the fabric of the land.
Many loves we pressed
and keep between the pages
of our minds.
These we collected
Down among the Greeks.

III
Lonely times, too.
Hurts we took and held
against us,
almost eagerly,
offered by Greek hands.
(We Trojans never learn!)
But who cannot but fall
when laid siege
by those almost Asiatic eyes,
golden limbs,
and Apollo smiles?
Little wonder we were brought down
Among the Greeks.

IV
Are those days gone?
Forever phantom days?
Wandering shadows
in a nether world of time?
While our hearts remember
and sing those times,
No!
How lucky I was to find you,
Another dreamer,
Another minstrel,
Whose song was sweeter
than my own.
How lucky to find you
Down among the Greeks.
