As investigative journalism experiences a renaissance of sorts during the current presidential administration, Marshall does an excellent job of framing Watergate as a seminal moment. I read this book as background for an episode on the women who reported Watergate, for my podcast Advanced TV Herstory.
TV journalism grew almost overnight from 1972-1974, presenting women reporters with all new opportunities. This is an important time in understanding rapid change of American culture, politics and values. As our country goes through another period of great change, Marshall spells out the lessons and legacies from nearly 50 years ago.
Students and casual readers interested in American politics, ethics in government, professional ethics, journalism, television, media and the presidency will find this a valuable and accessible read.
