The Witness of the Worshiping Community: Liturgy and the Practice of Evangelism
I am of two minds when reading this, on one hand is the praise I would give for Jukes' use of the English language, his poeticisms and vocabulary are completely interesting and what kept me reading. I was given this by a family member and wound up using it as a great way to illuminate characters in my writing.
On the other hand, the scholarship is horrible, for an author writing over 400 pages about the book of Genesis there is no indication he ever studied Hebrew or was even aware of the Talmudic tradition, madras, etc.
The sole aim of "Types in Genesis" is to link the stories and people of Genesis with larger Christian themes in a narrow hindsight that does a disservice to everyone. In fact entire sections of obvious areas arise immediately, i.e. the dual creation narrative goes by with nary a question. Again this is not a scholarly book, but a lengthy screed misappropriating a text for a Christian end with no regard for its history or the faith from where it came.
