Frederick Law Olmsted and the American Environmental Tradition - Albert Fein - Hardcover Book

I stumbled upon this book in a little charity bookshop just before Christmas. "Jingle bells" in the air, gingerbread lattes promoted at Starbucks closeby, the Christmassy atmosphere and the intriguing idea made me go for it and buy it but I wouldn't buy it again.

The book presents an interesting perspective on philosophy, taking relatable problems regarding Christmastime and analysing them from a philosophical viewpoint. It's a decent introduction to some of the hottest philosophical topics, such as the existence of God, violence, and theories like psychological egoism.

However, beyond the initial ideas and a few good chapters, the book is mediocre. Law's dispersive and often gets too "technical" without properly leading the reader to the points he wants to make or the ideas he wants to introduce.

Moreover, his opinion is very much felt, to the point that philosophers who don't agree with him are not adequately presented in his book.
