Camp All-American, Hanoi Jane, and the High-and-Tight

Don't let the awkward title of this book fool you. This is a well-researched account of English-language military folklore in the U.S. The author is an "old-school" folklorist, but I haven't seen this stuff anywhere else. As an account of the culture of the military this rings true. The overall argument, that the military must change its culture to accommodate women is less interesting to me. Neverhteless, Burke has done us a service by putting in print much that the military would rather not publicize.
