Preparing to Teach Writing: Research, Theory, and Practice
A very comprehensive and thoroughly researched book. In general, Williams covers all the bases here, and he does so with thorough and impeccable research. I was surprised to find that there wasn't a dedicated chapter for revision by itself. I did like that this new edition included considerations relating to the recent Common Core State Standards movement. However, the one real sticking point with the book is this: my students tended to find Williams to be just a bit too pompous and condescending . . . and I think I might have to agree. For this reason, I'm not sure whether I'll use the text again for a class. Overall, I'd give it a solid 3.5 (I've rounded up with my stars).
