One dark and dreadful night Book

One Dark and Dreadful Night, is a fun and mysterious story for 7-9 year olds. This story features Maestro Von Haughty and a group of young children performing "three tales of terror and misfortune". Students can connect with this story because all of the students in the play want to play their own characters and bring other props into the play just as some of my own students would want to do as well if they were in a play. Many characters in the play are ones students would recognize and are their own favorites as well. However, Maestro's number one goal is to keep them tales of terror and misfortune. As the students transition to each play they continue to bring their favorite childhood characters in the play such as cinderella, butterflies, giant bunnies, etc. Even though Maestro's wanted his play to be dark and mysterious the kids end up turning the play into a play that ends up happily ever after. I enjoyed this story and seeing how Maestro ended up enjoying the play and let his students have a happy ending. Students should enjoy the fun activities they participate in and be creative in their activities as well.


I think this would be a fun read aloud to my students around halloween because for young students this book is not to scary and has a happy ending as well. It would be a fun book to read because it has the essence of being dark and dreadful just as Halloween is stereotyped to be. Children would also be able to connect with this book by being able to see anything they participate in should be something they want to do for themselves and something they can enjoy doing!
