Ùکر نکنم تا سال‌ها بعد چیزی شبیهش پیدا کنم.
خانم دقیقی Ùˆ بقیه‌ی مترجمین در خلال یکی از کلاس‌های ویرایش به پیشنهاد یکی از مترجمین کتاب Ùˆ شرکت‌کننده‌های همان کلاس تصمیم می‌گیرند این کتاب را ترجمه کنند. اگر درست خاطرم مانده باشد. Ù‡Ùت هشت‌ سالی هم طول می‌کشد. Ùˆ تنها دوبار مجبور می‌شوند Ú©Ù„ ترجمه را بازبینی کنند. کاری Ú©Ù‡ اگر مترجم یکی بود سخت Ùˆ طاقت‌Ùرسا بود Ú†Ù‡ برسد وقتی با Ù‡Ùت هشت مترجم سر Ùˆ کار داریم. آن‌هم Ú†Ù‡ متنی؟ متن بزرگ‌ترین ویراستار‌های دنیا. ویراستارهای بخش‌های مختل٠نشر در بزرگ‌ترین انتشارات آمریکا. Ùˆ من باید بگم Ú©Ù‡ الØÙ‚ مترجمین Ú©Ù… نگذاشته بودند.
کتاب برای مثل منی Ú©Ù‡ شغلم در Øوالی همین کاری است Ú©Ù‡ نویسنده‌های مقالات مختل٠کتاب توضیØØ´ می‌دهند مثل Ùرصت مطالعاتی‌ای بود به آینده‌ی «دست‌نیاÙتنی» شغلی‌ام! برای همین Øس عجیبی موقع خواندن خط به خط کتاب همراهم بود. Øسی توامان Øسرت Ùˆ شوق. Øسرت از چیزی Ú©Ù‡ تقریبا Ù…Øال است در کشورت تجربه‌اش Ú©Ù†ÛŒ Ùˆ شوق دیدن موقعیت درست Ùˆ درمان شغلت در جایی دیگر.
مقاله‌های کتاب همه بدون استثنا Ùˆ تنها با چند اغماض Ú©ÙˆÚ†Ú©ØŒ سرØال، با شروع‌های خوب Ùˆ پایان‌بندی بدیع با زبانی شوخ Ùˆ سرزنده Ùˆ با Ù…Øتوایی بی‌دریغ برای بیان تجربیات کاری‌شان Ùˆ به‌جز دو سه مورد سرشار از عشق Ùˆ امید به کاری Ú©Ù‡ انجام می‌دهند Ùˆ روØیه دهنده به تازه‌واردهای این کار. جالب این‌که آن دو سه مورد هم Ú©Ù‡ داشتند از نابود شدن ویراستاری در قد قواره‌ی کاری Ú©Ù‡ پرکینز (بزرگ‌ترین ویراستار همه‌ی اعصار!) انجام می‌داد Øر٠می‌زدند بهترین متن‌های کتاب را Ùراهم کرده بودند Ùˆ چیزی از بقیه‌ی مقاله‌ها Ú©Ù… نداشتند. نمونه‌اش مقاله‌ی Ùروپاشی یک ایمان.
باید به خانم دقیقی دست‌مریزاد Ú¯Ùت کتاب تقریبا بی‌غلط است Ùˆ بسیار خوب ترجمه شده. کاÙی‌است ترجمه‌ی عنوان مقالات را نگاه کنید تا ذوق مولÙان Ùˆ مترجمان را توامان ببنید: ویراستاری داستان از سر٠عشق، ویرایش جلدشمیز‌های بازار-انبوه در میان‌سالی-میان‌سالی آن‌ها Ùˆ میان‌سالی من ...
در واقع آدم‌های بزرگی کار بزرگی از آد‌مهای بزرگی در آورده اند.
