This volume brings together all extant manuscripts of The Hour-Glass, from a handwritten three-page fragment of the 1902 prose version to Yeats's typescripts of the 1922 verse rendition.

Provocative.
A brief, readable play. I don't know what perspective Yeats himself would have had while he was living and writing this. But it seems that the roles of the Wise Man and the Fool are meant to be perspectives. To me, the meaning was that it is a mistake to confine reality to the visible world. By overintellectualizing, we miss the wonder and the truth. The verse in James comes to mind: "Let not many of you become teachers, as such will incur a stricter judgment." And elsewhere, "The wisdom of God is foolishness to the world."
