In this new revised and enlarged edition formal accounts are given of the 326 species most likely to be observed by man in the sea or caught by man near shore. Mention is made in the book of more than 100 other fishes, usually with sufficient information to permit their identification as well. The 326 species are illustrated, more than half in color and many in their natural habitat, mostly from photographs taken by the author, John Randall. Dr. Randall collected most of the fishes himself. Some were taken while aqua-lunging to depths as great as 200 feet.
