Unquiet Understanding
Like most great academic books, it could have been about 200 pages shorter, but some of the passages were brilliant (hence, I gave it 4 stars). I included a couple of my favourite quotes here already, but one, which is short, is the following:
'The life of understanding is not about completion but transformation. What matters is not that understanding complies with the fixity of a concept but that it remains in play, continuing to open possibilities of transformation and transcendence.'
There are more, but the best thing about this book is his articulation of Bildung (culture, education, development) and his critique of Derrida and Adorno, etc. from Gadamer's point of view.
