French Intellectual Nobility: Institutional and Symbolic Transformations in the Post-Sartrian Era
This book has been invaluable to my reading of Sartre. Specifically, the concept of an "internal relation" which this book describes effectively, has made Sartre's use of paradox throughout Being and Nothingness seem far more like a feature than a bug.
The writing is clear and engaging which makes this book worth a read even if you aren't doing so to better understand Being and Nothingness. I'm doing my undergraduate degree in Philosophy at the moment and this is the book of philosophy that I have been most motivated to read.
The links to Merleau-Ponty and Wittgenstein were interesting and very informative, they help to justify an intense study of Sartre. I sometimes wondered if my obsession with Sartre would be self-contained and therefore leave my other interests unaffected, but the fruitful dialogues with other thinkers exhibited in this book suggests that this needn't be the case.
I'd recommend this book for anyone interested in Sartre's work, especially in Being and Nothingness. Katherine Morris offers a unique and intelligible perspective on Sartre's major stances in B and N, making his arguments coherent without sanitising them beyond attributability.
