In the galaxy of baseball legends, few stars have shone as brightly as Joe DiMaggio. Called the greatest center fielder ever, he captured the imagination of millions of fans with his graceful play and consistently exceptional exploits.
DiMaggio compiled an astonishing 61-game hitting streak in 1933, his first full year in the minors. But most major league clubs shied away from signing him after he tore up his knee. Only the New York Yankees were willing to take a chance on him.
DiMaggio soon made the other teams sorry he was not their center fielder. During his 13 seasons with the Yankees, he led them to 10 American League pennants and 9 World Series titles, was named the American League MVP twice and an all-star 11 times. Above all, he set a record 56-game hitting streak in 1941 that remains the stuff of baseball legend.
A biography of the baseball legend who hit safely in fifty-six games during the 1941 season.
