Too Much Of A Good Thing
This was a very readable parenting book. I found the premise interesting, especially for this day and age. Our children have so much more than we did growing up, just as we have so much more than our parents did raising us. Generally speaking, why is everybody so unhappy? Why do some children choose to experiment with drugs, alcohol and sex at such early ages? Is it possible we can give our kids so much that they lose ambition, or never learn how to appreciate small victories in their lives, or are never satisfied materially? It seems so.
Although there was a lot of common sense in the book, I found it to be a good reminder to not 'fix' everything for my kids. Their best lessons will come from the consequences of their actions versus our manipulating outcomes so that they 'have a good experience,' no matter what their age is.
