Rather than simply retiring, many of today's senior adults wish to remain mentally and physically active, putting their skills to use—or developing new ones—as volunteers. They want to use their retirement only partially as a time to "relax." They are interested in taking on new responsibilities and trying new things—and "making a difference." While many seniors must stay near home, those with the desire and means to travel can volunteer anywhere. This reference book is for them. The projects included in this guide are located all over the world, and range in length from a few days to a few months. U.S. and international projects are listed separately, arranged alphabetically by the sponsor organization's name. Each entry includes the nature of the organization, volunteer opportunities, time commitment, size of volunteer program, locations, requirements (skills, language, religion, citizenship), maximum age of volunteers, financial details, accommodations, meals, transportation, insurance, disabilities, applications, contact person and tax information. The guide is indexed both by geographical location and by skills needed.
