The two Marine veterans bond with this platoon of youthful GIs confronting the loopy and nuclear saber-rattling North, in a contemporary Korea that just might become the battleground where we have to fight our next war. Brady recalls that first time on bloody Hill 749, the men who died there, what happened to the Marines who lived to make it home, and experiences yet again the emotional pull of a lifelong love affair with the Corps in which they all served.

The scariest place in the world
Would you ever return to your own personal 'scariest place in the world?' Probably not. James Brady, former USMC officer, goes back to Korea in 2003, 50 years after he left Korea to give his own encounter of the Korean War. Most of the book is as though you are sitting at dinner with Brady and he is sharing his war stories. Unfortunately, some of these stories are lost and at times it feels like he is name dropping. That aside, Brady really drives home that the Korean War is in fact, 'The Forgotten War.' Most people can give you a description of the modern wars: WWI, WWII, especially Vietnam. But can you describe the Korean War? The Korean War was, as Brady puts it, the last war in which both rich and poor died side by side. Harvard grads and blue collared workers were drafted together and fought together on Hill 749. The book was written in 2003, with the second Iraq War very much in the minds of the public. Are we so quick to forget how formidable of a foe the North Koreans are? Brady discusses all of this and I found it to be interesting. Why are we so quick to forget about the country that we fought against (and China and Russia) in the Korean War when they are still very much active and very much a concern for our country?
