[In fact, I ended up more interested in the nobleman who was being like "uh dude what's going on, why are you slandering your daughter, you seem weird" than in the vicar who fell in love with the portrait of the woman at first sight, before they'd ever met, and blamed her for his inability to think because she's so beautiful you see. Even though the nobleman is spineless and seeming to go along with the eeeevil father's plan, at least he has thoughts about the situation that don't involve pompously forgiving the heroine for all the wrongdoing she's done in the past and considering that maybe she was more sinned against than sinning (even though obvi she was still sinning and therefore still worthy of being judged as needing to atone). Also he doesn't have a repulsive friend in the village doctor with his lads will be lads banter. (hide spoiler)]
