In Schopenhauer in 90 Minutes, Paul Strathern offers a concise, expert account of Schopenhauer's life and ideas, and explains their influence on man's struggle to understand his existence in the world. The book also includes selections from Schopenhauer's writings; a brief list of suggested reading for those who wish to push further; and chronologies that place Schopenhauer within his own age and in the broader scheme of philosophy.
If you're familiar with this series, this new addition fits the same mold as its predecessors: the heart of each book is a 50-page or so section on "life and works," followed by excerpts from the writings and some chronologies of life and works plus a recommended reading list. The books are excellent for quick overviews of philosophers that are accurate and readable, but the series doesn't find a way to pose problems and issues that invite students to think along with the great men.
