Atherosclerosis Book

This volume reviews the latest findings on the cellular interactions and mediators involved in atherogenesis and explores the clinical and pharmacological implications of these findings. The major areas of emphasis are regulative functions of endothelial cells; adhesion processes; mediators of leukocyte/endothelium interactions; calcium channels in atherosclerosis; growth mechanisms, insulin, and atherosclerosis; lipoprotein modification, antioxidants, and atherosclerosis; and clinical benefits of lowering cholesterol. Included are studies on the involvement of oxidized phospholipids in atherogenesis, the role of antioxidant vitamins in prevention of atherosclerosis, and the antiatherogenic effects of calcium blockers. Other contributors review major clinical trials of various interventions for reversing atherosclerosis.
