At a critical time when habitat is increasingly being lost/fragmented, a Canadian ecologist fills a gap in the literature on the requirements of birds normally found in Ontario. Following the order and nomenclature of the American Ornithologists' Union Check-list of North American Birds, Sandilands presents species accounts of 84 birds from snow geese to the sandhill crane. Accounts include maps, line drawings, breeding season micro-habitat needs, limiting factors such as environmental pollution, current status, and migration patterns. Minor quibbles with an otherwise excellent treatment: not defining nonpasserines (most birds other than perching songbirds), and the unusually light print. Distributed by the U. of Washington Press.
