The Wings of the Morning Book

Ah, Mr. Tracy! I have tried three of your books for a book group this month but I just couldn't stick with them. First up was The Wings of the Morning. It's very good -- and that's why I had to stop! I was absorbed from the first page, really liked the characters, but it was all just a bit too intense for me with the tragedy of the shipwreck and the danger on the island (yes, I'm a wimp! But, it was just kind of chilling--especially as I wondered if anyone who sailed on the Titanic had read it!) Then I tried Cynthia's Chauffeur but just couldn't connect with the characters quick enough so abandoned it. Then I got about half way through The Silent Barrier but abandoned that, too. The tourism and mountaineering in the Swiss Alps was certainly interesting and picturesque and the hero and heroine well enough, but we almost never saw them together, and the rest of the characters are rather unlikable (if any of you have read it and feel there's more to it in the second half of the book let me know!)
