A GREAT book for the beginner, or for a person thinking to review beginning techniques. Taking this with a class in watercolor painting is perfect for me. I can't set up my desk properly yet though.
1. Use a rag to blot your brushes, instead of a paper towel. Rinse it out or throw it away.
2. My teaches, Kathy Pickett, uses a liquid mastic with a pointed applicator top, which works really well.
3. Ms. Robertson is unclear about brushes. I would recommend a #2, A #6, and a 1/2 inch flat. Then a rigger and a fan. BUT GET the best brushes you can, watercolor brushes. Yes, you'll pay over $7 each. Beware of the brushes on page 6.
4. I think I need several different sponges with different sizes holes. Maybe not.
5. Get rag paper. It's e$pen$ive and worth it.
I would get some purple or red / violet in a tube, instead of mixing it. . . I don't like spattering; it looks like something by an amateurish Jackson Pollock. . . I'm still working on salt, it doesn't pick up the paint . . . maybe I need kosher salt?
