I loved this book.
The illustrations are amazing: beautiful and intricate and so much to pour over, and wonderful for readers who love dollhouses, dolls, and miniatures. I wasn't so sure about the people at first, but I ended up enjoying how they were depicted. But it was the dollhouse interiors that were my favorites of the illustrations.
Rosy and her father have built and play with a dollhouse and its contents. When Rosy's father suddenly becomes ill and is hospitalized, Rosy gets some solace from playing with the dollhouse, especially when Thistle, an injured fairy shows up. Rosy helps Thistle heal and taking that action helps her deal with her anxiety about her father.
This could be a very therapeutic book for children with an ill or injured parent or other loved one, or if they themselves are ill or injured, but only if the ill/injured person will actually recover; it's a terrific reassurance story. It's also a lovely father and daughter story. Rosy's father is a wonderful dad!
And it has a wonderfully sweet last line.
I seem to appreciate this one more than most Goodreads' members. 4 ½ stars
