In this full-color storybook, Despereaux, the brave gentleman-mouse meets and falls instantly in love with Pea, the princess who is beautiful but prisoner to her father's grief. After Pea is kidnapped, Despereaux discovers he is the only one who can rescue her.and that even the tiniest mouse can find the courage of a knight in shining armor.

Kate DiCamillo's literary classic about Despereaux Tilling has enchanted children and adults around the globe. In this tale of bravery, forgiveness and redemption, one small creature teaches a kingdom that it takes only a little light to show the truth: What you look like doesn't equal what you are. Published in 23 languages, with more than 2 million copies in print, a New York Times #1 bestseller and winner of the Newbery Medal, The Tale of Despereaux is now animated adventure from Universal Pictures.

Children's Literature

What is it that makes Despereaux different from other mice? First, he does not look like other mice, and second, he is curious and has a great desire to learn. Despereaux loves to read books. One day he meets Princess Pea, and his adventures begin as he vows to help the princess. Despereaux ends up in danger himself, trapped in the dungeon along with Princess Pea. How can he save her from a terrible fate? Who will help him, and will he be able to save both of them? The illustrations appear to be stills from the animated film The Tale of Despereaux. There is also a note to parents and teachers on the inside front cover encouraging a love of books and reading along with a few tips to accomplish that goal. The back inside cover shows other spinoff books from the movie. This one is based on the screenplay by Gary Ross and the book by Kate DiCamillo. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
