Nancy Elizabeth Wallace has done it again with her adorable three-dimensional artwork created with cut paper, scissors, and a glue stick. She invites children to enter an alphabet house and join a family of bunnies as they look for familiar objects with letters A to Z. An almost wordless text makes Alphabet House a great introduction to visual literacy.
What a treat. Emerging readers and beginning readers will thoroughly enjoy the three-dimensional cut-paper illustrations in this board book. The story begins with the introduction of the bunny family that resides in the alphabet house. Grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, and five children take part in this alphabet adventure. On each page, a letter of the alphabet is represented with a family member. The bright and child-friendly cut-outs are simple but appealing to children. The goal for children is to identify as many objects as possible with the corresponding letter on the page. A maraca, unicycle, and hula hoop, plus shapes such as a hexagon, are some of the items depicted on the pages of the book. Children will be entertained by the identification game, as they strengthen and enrich their vocabulary with the corresponding alphabet letters. Reviewer: Rosa Roberts
