The Beatles, Football and Me Book

How anyone could cram so much in during his 79 years on this planet is a mystery to me. Hunter Davies, in his memoir The Beatles, Football and Me, covers the whole of his life from his upbringing in a working class Carlisle home through his student days at Durham University to a struggling journalist in Manchester and London and, eventually, to a highly respected feature writer and reporter on The Sunday Times. And that's not all. He wrote the screenplay for Here We Go The Mulberry Bush, the authorised biography of The Beatles, children's stories, books for teenagers, travel books and books about football, including biogs of Gazza and Wayne Rooney. I'm sure I missed something but he also somehow found time to bring up three children. Oh! of course he appeared on Radio and TV. He was awarded an OBE in the recent Queen's Birthday honours list.

The Beatles, Football and Me is hugely entertaining, beautifully written, appropriately illustrated and an all-round great read.
