Wonders of the World (Kingfisher Knowledge Series) Book

There were many beautiful artifacts in the past, but there were only seven ancient wonders of the world. There was the Great Pyramid of Giza, which was built for the death of the pharaoh Khufu in 2566 B.C. The Marvels of Babylon, that was located in Mesopotamia. The Olympic Zeus, which was erected around 430 B.C. The Temple of the Goddess, in modern day Turkey was also completed in around 430 B.C. The Mausoleum was built in Halicarnassus in 350 B.C. The Colossus of Rhodes, which was a gigantic statue of the sun god, Helios, was erected in 280 B.C. Finally the Pharos of Alexandria, was built 290 B.C., it was a landmark that marked the entrance to the port of Alexandria. Thus, this captivating nonfiction book was skillfully developed through the author's use of description.

The nonfiction book, Wonders of the World, taught the reader many interesting facts about the seven wonders of the worlds. There were beliefs that influenced the community to build the temple of the goddess. The famous temple of the goddess was dedicated to the mythological goddess of the moon, Artemis. Building the Marvels of Babylon was a great achievement for the Mesopotamian civilization. The hanging gardens of Babylon were also named, paradise. There were causes and effects of the building of the Mausoleum. When the queen Artemisia's brother died she ordered that the best architects of the Greece to build his tomb. The seven wonders of the world are very interesting to study.
