Readers embark on a fantastic voyage through human biology and discover the body’s ins and outs as they’ve never seen them before. Beginning with the basic building blocks, continuing to the body in action, and concluding with the body’s systems, this is a compact and comprehensive look at the wonder that is the human machine.
This book has a great layout with pictures and text. The first chapter deals with "Past and Present" and includes the life story from ancestors to body ingredients to making babies and the "life story." Chapter Two, "Body in Action," includes the body's framework, seeing the world, sounds, and flavors. Chapter Three deals with "Supply and Defense" from feeding, digestion, waste disposal, oxygen supply, heart, and blood defense force and even treating diseases. The summaries of each chapter also give Web sites for further exploration, identifies terms and new words, and gives additional references. They are great! There's a really nice glossary and a very extensive index. On the front cover there is a note, "Includes extra Web sites, book lists, and places to explore." The book includes a foreword by Dame Professor Nancy Rothwell, a leading neuroscientist and U.K. Medical Research Council professor. All around, this is a really nice book. Part of the "Kingfisher Knowledge" series.
