Ss A Warning from History Book

This book - was simply getting me angry. Anger and full with despair, pain and grief.
This book is about the start and rise and fall of SS, starting as Hitler's elite guart, continuing to became the worst war criminals who killed people without mercy and with the utmost efficiency, and being the most braves (and most fanatical and stupidest) men in the WWII.
This book trying to explain the inexplicable: how could ordinary men and women turns into monsters?
How could be a devoted family man and talented musician turn into 'the Butcher of Prague' and into the 'Young Evil God of Death'?
How could be a man looking like an average teacher with his glasses to be the Reichsführer SS?
How could these man and woman could kill people in gas chambers, don't have any twinge of conscience, because they were convinced they are doing the right thing?
Was the world so twisted? Were the people so twisted after the WWI and after the big economy crisis in the whole world and especially in Germany they didn't find any other handrail, and the Nazi ideal turned into something normal for them?
This book is gathering all the facts, trying to answer these questions, and trying to think about, what YOU would do in that times, when you were a german? Would you blend in? Did you fight these "war" against the Jews? Did you join the SS if you were a Flame, a Vallon, or French as so many men did?
The other great thing I found in this book this is full with pictures and citations from the peers. I just wonder, what that man had feel who took pictures from men awaiting to enter the gas chamber? The other just shot a photo from a Totenkopf-man in Auschwitz? The other who shot photos of some young SS-soldiers? Corpses, Heydrich, Amon Goetz, Warsaw Ghetto, ordinary men in SS-uniforms Was it for the photographers a normal thing?
But this all brings that time a bit nearer. You can understand that this is an existing thing - think of ODESSA, about all the missing men, who survived the WWII.
This book brings us to this time a bit nearer. But to understand, WHY it was happened? I have doubts, if we can understand.
This is a great book from a great author - but it will take long time when I'll read this book again.
