The Sea Eagle: The Civil War Memoir of LCdr. William B. Cushing, U.S.N.
I enjoyed hearing Mr. Millett present his book at a Civil War symposium a few years ago, which prompted me to read his thoroughly researched work on the fate of the Confederate treasury. This is a difficult topic to cover as the confederate gold is highly romanticized and often fictionalized. Given the rather sparse and limited amount of information available about the fate of the treasure, the authors have provided a highly plausible theory of the "rest of the story." Though not a treasure hunt "thriller" the book is a methodical account of the real individuals who had control over this wealth at the end of the war. I would recommend this book to the Civil War buff or a novice to the topic.
