Eating Local: The Cookbook Inspired by America's Farmers Book

Well . . . On the upside this is a beautiful picture-perfect coffee-table book, put our by Sur La Table, the upscale kitchen store with roots in Seattle. The book features lots of luscious color photos and is divided up by vegetables, fruits, meat and eggs. I checked this book out from the library and I'm still perusing the recipes--I've found many I'd like to make. The recipes are simple, the kind I might make up in my own kitchen. On the downside, I hate it when a book promotes local food and is printed in China. Don't book publishers get this is a big of hypocracy and hype, dovetailing a trend and pretending to be something it isn't? Also it's much to do with California produce. The chef who wrote the recipes had no idea about the costs of some of these foods outside of California. For example, in the 2nd recipe, Sicilian Spring Vegetable Stew, it lists 16 baby artichokes, 2 pounds of fava beans and 1 pound of English peas. The cost of these ingredients in one recipe for four is nearly $60 in Seattle! This book is way too upscale for many farmers' market shoppers and with only 4 farmer profiles, and no useful produce descriptions --$35.00 is way too costly. Publishers--please quit printing books about local food in China!
