This series entry explores the life of a major figure at the time the nation was young (1801-1861), using full-color as well as black-and-white historical photographs and illustrations, authentic documents, and factual, engaging text. Tecumseh sought to unite Native Americans in repelling the frontier settlers in the Northwest Territories, which included Ohio, where he lived. Failing that, partly due to an excitable and prophetizing brother who told his followers that his magic would make them impervious to bullets, the movement failed and Tecumseh committed his forces to the British efforts to defeat the Americans in the War of l812. Information about the Shawnee descendants in Oklahoma and the problems the government incurred in "resettlement," is also a part of this text.
