Listening at the Gate (The Seeker Chronicles Series) Book

I am kind of in love with this book and am eager to check out the rest of the series. The author has created an amazing world, where people's lives are filled with song.

Have you ever read a book where there was some poetry, supposedly belonging to the characters in the story and supposedly brilliant and you just shook your head and thought that the author should have realized there was a reason he writes prose rather than poetry? This book was not like that.

The songs belonging to the different cultures in the novel were beautifully written and convincing. I checked the back of the book halfway through to assure myself the author hadn't lifted them from somewhere. They're gorgeous and only help to more fully flesh out a world that already feels wonderfully real.

The characters were so human. Not a one of them was perfect and not even the boldest heroes were without their moments of doubt and quarreling.

Ultimately, I can't express properly how much I enjoyed reading this. To sum up, I haven't encountered a world that feels this distinctive in fantasy for a long time.
