When Hare runs around telling all the animals that he is faster than them, Tortoise challenges him to a race. During their race, Tortoise takes it one step at a time, keeping a steady pace. Where as Hare thinks that because he is much faster, he can take a nap and still beat Tortoise when he wakes up. Hare ends up sleeping too much so that when he does wake up, Tortoise has already won the race.
This book or any other story of this version of the Tortoise and the Hare could be used to teach young students the value of hard work. It has a simple vocabulary that would make it easy for students to read.
