No turning back Book

The middle part of the book was good, with two themes prevalent: overcoming fear and being kind to animals. However, the murder of Carol was not developed. I didn't feel the fear in seeing a friend dead, or the terror of being alone in the woods with a murderer about. It seemed like the main character was sort of, well, not surprised. It was unsatisfying. Also, the end was lacking emotion. When the parents discover their child who had been lost in the woods and had been found only after the dead body of another child was uncovered, it seems there would be more of an emotional torrent. Instead, it seemed like there was a sort of calm about them. Most parents would not react that way to this sort of situation.
