When The Teacher Isn't Looking: And Other Funny School Poems Book

This collection of poems is about classroom chaos. Each of the poems is directed towards a classroom event, such as picture day or a day with a substitute teacher. While these poems are relatable, they also have a dramatic twist of events that would not necessarily happen in a real life classroom. The humorous poems also connect to one another in the sense that they relate to a child's sense of adventure and an adult's views in wanting to contain the children. I do love this book for children to read in and out of their classroom, but I have some critiques as well. I think before a teacher allows their students to read this book, they should be familiar with the maturity level of their classroom. These poems contain content that might encourage students to act inappropriately in the classroom, thinking the behavior modeled in the book is okay for the classroom setting. Older students should have no problem understanding this book was written in a humorous way.
