Lost Lady (James River Saga Series #2) Book

I dont even know why I like this book so God damn much. So much in fact, that it must be my all time fav Jude Deveraux book, and I reread it every few years.

I must warn you, this book has rape and I don't mean one of those forced seduction kind but the really painful, crying kind. Y'know those emotionally painful scenes you find yourself cringing from, that kind of rape scene. You will want to smack the big jerk for hurting this delicate girl, and yes, she's a "girl" and not a woman. I'm sure it is THIS scene that has many woman giving it a low rating.

The hero is a complete brute , a caveman, a Neanderthal - and yet, gradually he will win you over because this jerk is absolutely looney about this girl. If a rapist can be called lovable, he is one. But this is a romance novel from the Un-PC era, so what do you expect ...

Now the heroine. What an utter TSTL (to stupid to live) female. She's so stupidly innocent and naive about everything that you kinda feel sorry for her, which isnt my normal reaction to TSTL heroines) . This poor girl has been locked up and kept away from the real world by her greedy relatives all her live, so if anyone has an excuse to be TSTL, she has a good one for being one. Imagine being so lonely that one of your dream is to have "A" friend, so unloved by people around you that your other dream is to be needed. All my sympathy was for her. She's so utterly lost and confused, and the only person who seems to care is that big jerk, the rapist... Just imagine the drama in this book!

To me, this is a bit of a Beauty and the Beast story. I don't mean in their appearance because they're both beautiful physically but in that, he's such a rough, beasty Alpha and she's his complete opposite. A naive delicate girl who literally views the world in pink lenses. They really needed each other.

Although she's a TSTL and a completely push-over for most of the book because of her past, she does grow a spine eventually and becomes a strong woman. And THIS I am sure is why I love this story so much. Seeing this poor girl go from being a needy, TSTL fool to someone who makes something of herself without anyones help, including the hero, made me so God Damn proud.

If you're passing up on this book simply because of the bad reviews, and do not mind a un-PC romance novel, DO read this story!
