Theology for a Troubled Believer: An Introduction to the Christian Faith Book

This is a book on theology written by a philosopher. As such, it is not a casual read. This won't be an Oprah Book Club pick. The author approaches the concept of faith in God from a particular angle, and stays with that angle throughout, but also assumes a very literate audience. Based on the title, you might assume a troubled believer would be a neophyte or recent convert. No, the troubled believer who is the target audience for this book will be well read and educated. Again, this isn't an easy breezy light read. For someone with a low reading level, low level of education, or poor vocabulary, this book will be a great challenge. For someone who has spent a lifetime thinking about religious themes and who isn't afraid to ask probing questions about what they think and believe, then this book will challenge you in a good way. I read this book as part of the Education for Ministry program developed by Sewanee the University of the South. I highly recommend anyone reading this book do so with a friend or as part of a group so you have others to discuss it with. Two thumbs up, but not for everyone.
