In the early part of the century, more than two dozen prominent Shakespearean scholars produced a 40-volume edition for Yale University Press, complete with 37 individual plays, poems, sonnets, brief biography, and copious scholarly annotations. This new one-volume edition preserves the annotations, but has been redesigned for easy use. Each of Shakespeare's lines is produced on its own full line, allowing for an accurate rendering of the full poetic rhythm. The text, printed on acid-fee paper for greater longevity, has been completely redesigned and reset in an elegant and readable typeface.
The plays are grouped into comedies, histories, and tragedies. Each play is preceded by an introduction discussing relevant topics, including possible sources which Shakespeare used to foster the plot, the editor's choice of authoritative text, and probable date of the play's composition. 1,536 pp.
