A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland Book

An enjoyable read that takes the author and reader in a roughly circular tour of Ireland - but most particularly the Trad music sessions. I have an interest in this myself (I play the fiddle) and enjoyed his (fanciful?) descriptions of the sessions the various pubs around the coast. He starts (and ends) in the North, but it was written a couple of years before the Good Friday Agreement, so (hopefully) his descriptions of the sectarian nature of the northern tribes has been overtaken by events - unless Brexit brings them back, of course.

Maybe not that useful as a travel guide - it's a bit vague and (now) a bit outdated - however, it is worth reading for the descriptions of the landscape and weather. There is a fine section on the West Coast that had me looking at the air and sea fares! I was hoping for a more detailed exploration of Dublin but I gather he was more or less 'passing through' on his way back to the north.

Worth reading and I am glad I did.
