Too Close to Home Book

Talk about a thrilling read! I'd give this one 4.5 stars and would be lying if I called it anything less than excellent.

In Promise Falls, a triple homicide takes place one evening next door to the Cutter's abode. No one heard or saw what happened to the Langley's, but everyone is assuming it had something to do with Albert's job as the town's criminal attorney. As the book progresses, we learn that everyone in this town seems to have a secret, but the largest secrets seem to lie within the Cutter's own family. Throw in a corrupt mayor and a pompous college president and you have a recipe for a suspenseful read to keep you up all night.

I wanted to read this in one sitting but, alas, life happens and doesn't always allow that. :) Honestly, if it weren't for the slightly cheesy dialogue of Derek Cutter, the teenage son, in the prologue and a few other similar snippets, this book would have gotten a 5 star rating from me (although I feel I'm being a little picky). I found Ellen Cutter's character a little difficult to like, even after all the tension is resolved, but I think that added to the story for me. I did slightly wish we got to know the Langley family more through back telling of stories or something similar. Overall, this was a fantastic read and would recommend to anyone looking for a quick read. I'll definitely be looking into more Linwood Barclay novels immediately.
