Pirate romance for the win!
I'm a fan of revenge stories--love, love, love them. Why yes, I do hold grudges. And with a name like Captain Doom...*sigh* I wanted to be a pirate as a child, lurking in Drake's Passage and Blackbeard's Playground, but alas it's not really a modern "profession" neither is Valkyrie, growing up was very disappointing.
Lucy Snow, is the only child of Admiral Snow. She knows her way around a ship and isn't prone to the vapors. No nonsense and her life runs like clockwork, or rather Admiral Snow's does and everyone in his household follows orders. Lucy is amused by the tall tales sailors are telling in dark as she eavesdrops until... Captain Blood and his ghost ship appears out of the fog to attack.
"Oh, I've excellent aim," she confessed. "I just couldn't bear to stab you in the heart."
This is a delight. Not as much time on the pirate ship as I'd like, but Medeiros does a wonderful job giving the captain and crew a backstory and the resolution is perfect. Believable, too. Shocking, I know.
Wholeheartedly thrilled with this gem and again, Whiskey helped steer me to winner.
