This book should specify more explicitly the variety of Portuguese that it is addressing, which is BP (Brazilian Portuguese). For all that everyone tends to lump all kinds of Portuguese together - although all lusophone speakers would be able to understand each other, to say that all of these varieties are one and the same is deeply erroneous.
This is a good linguistic introduction to BP. Solid in its historical and contextual assessment of the language.
