John le Keux's series of steel-engravings was first published as Memorials of Cambridge in 184 1. These illustrations appeared at a time when the art of engraving was about to be displaced by photography. The photograph made the engraver's job redundant, but it is thanks to the skilled craftsmanship of the engraver that this record of the Victorian university exists. This re-issue, with text by L. P. Wilkinson, first appeared as a collaborative charitable endeavour in 1981. The Press has now assumed responsibility for the book. All proceeds from sales are donated to the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund.
