I read this book when my daughter was in pre-school and I didn't want to straighten her hair. I was letting go of a perm myself at the time, so it was fortuitous to find this book with may practical suggestions for grooming and styling natural hair, and how to get it to grow out. Many of these things I knew, but the author explained them so well, that I started giving this book to white mothers of children of color my kids played with. And and they thanked me, again and again. The second book, "Kitchen Beautician:..." is also very good with natural treatments for hair and face.
